Supported File Extensions by Media Type

This article outlines the types of Media, or content, supported by Documoto, including their functionalities and associated file formats. 

Article Topics

Book

The Book media type refers to interactive parts books, manuals, or catalogs created within Documoto and displayed in the Documoto Library. These books can contain:

  • Table of Contents 
  • Chapters
  • Interactive parts pages
  • Static pages (e.g. document, external, image, microsite, or video)

Document

The Document media type are source document files that are uploaded to Documoto and displayed in the Documoto Library.

If a PDF or Office file is over 250MB (in disc usage size), Documoto will display the "Click to Download" view for the document instead of showing it in the viewer.

Document File Support Functionality

  • Viewable in Library: These files will be displayed within a viewer in the Documoto Library. 
  • Indexed & Searchable: When using the Search Bar in the Documoto Library, search terms that appear within the document will be returned as relevant search results.

External

The External media type refers to links to an external websites. These links can be viewed either in a new browser tab or within the media viewer in the Documoto Library. 

For instructional videos hosted on other sites or 'embed' type URLS, you can also create pages with embedded URLs so users can view the video or site contents directly in Documoto.

Image

The Image media type refers to source image files that are uploaded to Documoto and displayed within the Documoto Library. These images are treated separately from thumbnail images or diagrams used interactive part pages.

Below is a comma-delimited list of the image file extensions that are supported for a chapter or static pages:

  • .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, .bmp, .tiff, .tif

Microsite

The Microsite media type refers to a fully-encapsulated website that is hosted by and displayed within Documoto. This allows Publishers to upload HTML5 content as a .ZIP file display it within the Documoto Library.

Video

The Video media types refers to embed video files uploaded to Documoto and displayed within the Documoto Library.
