How to Create a QR Code for Documoto Content
To create a QR code linking to Documoto content, follow these steps:
- Identify the content in Documoto that you want to link to (e.g., a Part, Page, Book, or Media type).
- Obtain the Direct URL of the content:
- Contact your Customer Success Manager for documentation, guidelines, and authentication considerations for creating Direct URLs for Documoto content.
- NOTE: Copying a URL from the browser while viewing content in the Documoto Library will not take users directly to that content. They will first be redirected to the Documoto login page to authenticate. The URL will only grant access if the user has an active Documoto session.
- Use a QR code generator (such as an online tool or software) to create a QR code:
- Paste the Direct URL into the QR code generator.
- Customize the QR code if needed (e.g., size, color, or logo).
- Download and save the QR code for printing or digital use.
- Place the QR code on physical equipment, documentation, or digital platforms where users can easily scan it.
Best Practices for Using QR Codes with Documoto
- Use a QR Code Manager for Physical QR Codes – A QR Code Manager allows you to update the destination link without replacing the QR code.
- Ensure Readability – Print QR codes at a sufficient size and test scanning distance before deployment.
- Provide Alternative Access Methods – Include a short URL or NFC option for users who cannot scan the QR code.
- Monitor Usage – Track scan analytics to measure engagement and optimize content accessibility.
Direct URL Considerations
When using direct URLs in QR codes, keep the following in mind:
- Security Risks – Direct URLs may not require authentication, making them less secure. Ensure sensitive content is protected.
- Bypass Login – Some direct URLs can be configured to bypass login requirements, allowing easier access but potentially reducing security.
- Customer Support Assistance – For guidance on best practices and Access Controls settings, contact your Customer Success Manager to ensure the correct use of Documoto Direct URLs.
