Documoto Language Support

To support users worldwide, Documoto provides multilingual support for both its user interface (UI) and content. This articles outlines the types of translations available, how to configure language settings, and which languages are currently supported.

Types of Translations in Documoto

Documoto supports two types of translations:

  1. User interface (“UI”) translations
  2. Content translations

Each type serves a different purpose and is managed differently.

User Interface (“UI”) Translations

UI translations allow users to view the Documoto interface in their preferred language. This includes localization of the following user interface elements:

  • Labels
  • Buttons
  • Tabs
  • Menus

Enabling UI Translations

Users can set their preferred language in one of two ways:

  1. Login Page: Select from the language drop-down Login Page Language
  2. In the Library: Select from the language drop-down in the top navigation bar (to the left of the "Home" button).

If a selected language is supported, Documoto will automatically translate the user interface in that language.

Refer to the  Supported Languages section below for a full list of available UI translations

UI Translations and Labels Considerations

Administrators have the ability to override Documoto user-interface elements using Labels. For example, the label "Book" can be updated to "Parts Catalog".

Important considerations when using Labels:

  • Labels apply globally across all langauges
  • If translations are not provided for each supported locale, the customized label will still be shown in every language
  • Documoto does not revert to default system labels or their translations when a label has been overridden

To ensure a fully localized experience, Administrators must provide translations for each supported language manually when configuring Labels

Content Translations

Content translations allow Publishers to add translations for content that has been published to Documoto, as well as custom fields that have been created by administrators (e.g. tags, media categories, etc.).

Documoto does not automatically translate content (e.g. parts, pages, chapters, media, templates).

To display content in another language, translations must be added directly to Info section for each entity (Admin Center > Content > select entity)

Please see the table below for a full list of content translations supported in the Documoto Library.

Language Preference & Fallback Logic

When a user sets a language preference, Documoto attempts to display both the user interface and content in that language. If a translation is not available, Documoto applies the following fallback logic:

Fallback Sequence for Content Translation: User-preferred locale ➡️ Language-level match ➡️ Tenant default ➡️ Tenant Language-level match ➡️  English (US)  ➡️  First available translation

Fallback Sequence for System Fields: User-preferred locale ➡️ Language-level match ➡️ Tenant default ➡️ Tenant Language-level match ➡️  English (US)

Supported Languages

Below is a list of all languages currently supported for UI and/or content translations.

Documoto's locale codes align with ISO 639-3 and ISO 3166-1 standards, ensuring accuracy and global consistency across translations and regional content.
