Documoto performs backups of both our database and our file storage (images, documents, related files).
For our database, we use Amazon’s database service called RDS. Backups are built-in, and we have a 21-day backup retention policy in place. Backups are stored on Amazon S3, with 11 nine’s of availability, so with these backups, we can provide point-in-time recovery of the database. We also use multiple Availability Zones (AZs), an Amazon feature that gives high availability with a hot spare database and automatic failover in case of any problems.
For our file system, we use Amazon's filesystem service called EFS. Amazon EFS is designed to be highly available and durable. All files and directories are redundantly stored within and across multiple Availability Zones in a region to prevent the loss of data from the failure of any single component. We use the Amazon backup service and backups are run nightly. We have a 14-day backup retention policy for the file system.
