Access Controls | Allow a publisher to set who can see content in the Cloud Library |
Assembly | An assembly is used in DocuStudio when publishers want to organize items visually within the bill of materials. Assemblies allow the publisher to indent parts under other parts within the BOM. |
Auto-Hotpoint | A feature that allows publishers to automatically populate their raster and vector based images with hotpoints utilizing Optical Character Recognition algorithms. |
Bill of Materials ("BOM") | A list of the parts and assemblies required to build a product. When a BOM is published in DocuStudio alongside a hotpointed diagram, it creates an interactive parts page. |
Book | A collection of interactive parts pages and static media. Books (sometimes called part catalogs) can be organized with a Table of Contents, presented in media categories/shelves, downloaded for offline viewing, and locked down with access controls. |
Categories | Where books and other media are made available in the Cloud Library to end users based on assigned user groups. |
Callout | Refers to a letter or number identifying a specific part of an illustration in the source content provided to Documoto. |
Chapter | Refers to a grouping of pages within a book; can also be referred to as a group or section. |
Diagram | An imported image used in publishing. When a diagram has been populated with hotpoints and published alongside a bill of materials, it creates an interactive parts page. |
Data Stream | A subset of an entire content set that should be published in a unique fashion from other content that is being provided. Data streams are often divided along lines of: brand, year, product group, or manufacturing location. |
Display Order |
This Classic feature allows an administrator to present media shelves and tags in a certain order from the Library. In Rocket, this feature allows an administrator to present tags and filters in a defined order in the Documoto library. |
Documobile | An iOS and Android version of Documoto that extends all of the library, or end user, capabilities to mobile devices, and has an offline shelf to view content when you are not able to connect to the internet.
Note: Documobile is no longer supported on tablets with up to date operating systems. Documobile will be re-written in the future. |
Documoto | Online web library that holds technical documentation and allows users to search for and order parts. Documoto also includes additional modules like Publisher that allows publishers to create content. |
DocuStudio | Desktop application for creating and publishing interactive parts pages. |
Dynamic Naming | A feature that allows tenant administrators to customize their naming formats in the user interface. With dynamic naming, the administrator can change the displayed names of entities (such as chapter name, page name and parts name) using the dynamic naming feature. |
End User | The customer who searches the Library for parts to purchase and other content based on access controls and given organizational and user permissions. |
Entity | A unique item in the Documoto database that can have attributes and tags applied to it, such as a media, chapter, page or part. |
Faceted Tag | A feature that allows all available tag values to be used as checkboxes within a filter list in the Library. Thus, an end user can select one or many faceted tag values to narrow down web library search results to quickly find the part, page, or book they are looking for. |
Favorites | Favorites allow users to pin content to the landing page. As a result, users can quickly and easily navigate to the content they use the most. |
Hotpoint | Interactive callouts in a parts diagram. Selecting them highlights the part in the bill of materials, and opens a hotpoint preview of the associated part attributes (part number and name). |
Hotpoint Link | Allows users to create links to other pages within Documoto from a hotpoint. |
Identifier | Also known as the media identifier, it is assigned at the time a media is created. The identifier is searchable but not customizable. |
Illustration Editor | Allows publishers to make minor modifications to part diagrams through the Page Manager within the Publisher module. |
Interactive Page | Comprised of a Bill of Materials (BOM) and a diagram with hotpoints. Pages represent full assemblies in Documoto. |
Interactive Parts Book | A book in Documoto that consists of interactive pages with a diagram and a bill of materials. |
Job Manager | The Job Manager is a process handler for publishing as well as exporting interactive media at the book, chapter, and page level. Go to Job Manager to review the status of previous jobs. |
Label | A label refers to the naming convention given to certain entities in the Documoto user interface. These labels can be customized by a Tenant Admin to closer align with their preferred industry verbiage (Example: Book vs Parts Catalog). |
Library | The primary end user Documoto interface that enables end users to search and browse media shelves (in Classic) or browse flows and media categories (in Rocket), interact with content, and add parts to the shopping cart for quotes or purchases. |
Media | Any books, images, videos, documents, or external media that have been uploaded to Documoto |
Media Manager | Located in the Publisher Module, the Media Manager is where all uploaded media items can be viewed, edited, or configured. |
Module | A self-contained or separate part of Documoto that has unique features and a designated purpose, such as Publisher or Tenant Administration. |
News Items | In Rocket, News Items are a way for administrators to communicate important organizational news to end users through the user interface. |
Order Management | A feature that can be enabled for a Documoto tenant to allow administrators to create customized HTML5 order form layouts, set-up automatic order email alerts, enable order history for end users and enable order status administration capabilities for Administrators. |
Order Suggestion | A feature available in Part Info and the Shopping Cart that suggests other parts the user may be interested in purchasing based on what items are currently in their cart. Part suggestions also show up in the content tab called Suggestions. This can be configured manually in Publisher per part, or based on a tenant property threshold for how many times parts must be ordered together before ordering one automatically suggests the other. |
Organization | A permissions unit under the tenant umbrella, one or many organizations can be created and "nested" in one another for the purposes of segregating content, pricing, and custom branding. |
Organization Pricing | Feature available in the Part Manager that allows for part pricing customized per organization |
Page | Refers to an interactive parts page as well as static media published and made available in a book. |
Page Manager | This module allows publishers to access and configure page properties, as well as perform many publishing tasks on pages already published in Documoto. |
Page Properties | Attributes and attachments associated with a page like tags, related media, thumbnails, and more. |
Part | The most finite piece of data in Documoto. A part cannot be added directly into Documoto unless published within a bill of materials. |
Part Code | A value used in place of a part number; often used to indicate when certain items are obsolete or not available. |
Part Manager | The Part Manager panel allows publishers to view and edit individual parts and associated data. |
Part Number | An alphanumeric code given to a single part by an original equipment manufacturer and published into Documoto as correlated metadata. |
Parts Book | A collection of interactive parts pages and static media organized according to a table of contents and displayed for an end user in media shelves or categories. |

PLZ | A Documoto-specific file type referring to an archive file consisting of a .SVG, .PNG, and .XML |
Pricing Toggle | A button in the user interface that hides or reveals prices to a user. |
Publisher | A type of user responsible for converting, generating, and editing parts books and making them available to end users. |
Purchase Order | An order form used to purchase parts via a populated shopping cart and sent to a designated person in order to buy parts. |
Quick Add | A feature in the shopping cart that allows a user to quickly add parts to a shopping cart with a part number. |
Quote Template | This feature enables Requests for Quote in the Shopping Cart by uploading a properly formatted XLS file for each supported translation. |
Related Media | Media can be related to parts, interactive pages, chapters, and books. |
Reporting Module | A feature that provides several reporting functionalities related to media, users, and shopping cart information. |
Shelf Filters | Shelf Filters allow Classic users to narrow down media in shelves by specific tags, such as model numbers, descriptions, or other useful attributes. |
Shelf Views | Options to change the way items in the Classic library are presented in the user interface, like "grid" or "list" for example. |
Shopping Cart | The shopping cart provides users with a way to send purchase orders (PO) or request for quotes (RFQ) directly to the after-market part vendor or equipment manufacturer |
Source (Legacy) Content | Structured or semi-structured documents that Documoto will extract data from to create Documoto formatted pages, chapters, and books. |
Static Media | All media that is not interactive, which includes images, documents, videos, and external links. |
Supersede | A feature used when a published part has been changed, resulting in a new part number. Superseding a part assigns the new number to the part while preserving the original "superseded" part number for searching capabilities. |
Supplier | The supplier of the part published through a page; for OEMs, this value almost never changes. |
Table of Contents ("TOC") | The Table of Contents is a way to organize pages in books. |
Tag | Tags are metadata that can be used to describe or define some aspect of an entity (part, page, chapter or media item) for searching and/or classification. |
Taxon | A single browsing tile within a taxonomy structure in Rocket. Taxons can be a step in the hierarchy or configured to execute a search in the library to return content. |
Taxonomy | Taxonomy is a way to guide your users in Rocket to information within the library by setting up a hierarchy of steps, or browsing ‘tiles’. This feature can be considered a ‘short cut’ to content and is particularly useful for users who may not have detailed information, like a part number or serial number, available to them. |
Template Manager | A feature in the Publisher module used to create a default table of contents which can include pre-configured pages to reduce book publishing time. |
Template Layout | Defines the layout of order forms and printed orders created from the Order Management module. |
Tenant | A single instance of a Documoto Cloud Library and environment that can be customized, populated with content, and made accessible to end users. |
Tenant Administrator | A user with access to the Tenant Admin module, where the tenant can be customized. The Tenant Admin module includes options to create media shelves/categories, labels in the user-interface, logos for the tenant, user privileges and other features and settings. |
Thumbnail | A small image applied to an entity that provides the end user a visualization of what the entity is or contains. |
Translation | Allows a single entity to have multiple names in different languages that can be viewed based on a user's language preferences. |
User | Anyone that logs in to Documoto, including: administrators, publishers, and end users |
User Group | A permissions unit that defines a user’s privileges and capabilities in the Documoto interface. |
Where Used | A content tab that displays all of the media that a page or part can be found on. |
