DocuStudio is generally described as a page creation tool. In other words, the primary purpose of DocuStudio is to create new, interactive parts pages. The secondary purpose of DocuStudio is to modify or update existing pages. This article describes how to update or modify existing pages in DocuStudio.

When to Use DocuStudio Over Documoto
While most data related to a page can be, and should be, updated in Documoto, there are some page modifications that can only be performed within the DocuStudio application. Use the information below as a guide for when to use DocuStudio for content creation and updates versus when to use Documoto Publisher.
When to Use DocuStudio
- To create new pages
- To add or remove part(s) from the bill of materials ("BOM") of an existing page
- To create BOM assemblies for an existing page
- To add or remove diagram(s) from an existing page
- To hotpoint a page
When to Use Documoto
- To create books
- To add PDFs or other files to books or the cloud library
- To modify or update page and part names
- To update tags
- To add comments, attachments, and hotpoint links
- To quality check publishing work
How to Pull Down an Existing Page from Documoto to DocuStudio
- Launch Docustudio
- Login using your assigned username and password.
- Click the ‘Login’ button.
- Click the ‘Open’ button on the ‘File’ ribbon.
- Select the ‘Browse Server’ button.
- Locate the .plz file you wish to modify.
- Select the file and click the ‘Open’ button; the diagram and BOM for that file will open in Docustudio.
- Follow the instructions below to modify the BOM.
Modifying the Bill of Materials (BOM)
How to Merge or Override the BOM
- Open the column delineated parts list that you wish to merge with the current BOM or use to override the current BOM.
- Copy the entire table area that needs to be added to the .plz page.
- Go back into Docustudio and click the ‘Import BOM’ button
.
- Drag and drop column headers into the appropriate columns from the list on the left to the headers on the right above the BOM columns.
- Click on the ‘Override’ or ‘Merge’ option at the top of the ‘Import BOM’ window.
- Override: imports the copied data and replaces the current BOM
- Merge: imports and appends the copied data to the existing BOM.
- Click ‘Import’ when you have selected the correct option.
- Save your changes by going to the ‘File’ tab and selecting the ‘Save’ icon.
How to Add Rows in the BOM
- Click on the ‘Insert Row’ icon
on the left BOM editor toolbar.
- At the very bottom of the parts list, click into the ‘Item’ column cell in the newly created row.
- Enter all of the column value information for each cell in the new row.
- Click out of the row.
- Save your changes by going to the ‘File’ tab and selecting the ‘Save’ icon.
How to Delete Rows in the BOM
- Highlight the row(s) you wish to delete in the BOM.
- Click on the ‘Delete Row’ icon
in the left BOM toolbar or press ‘Shift –‘ to delete the row.
- Select the'Yes' button in the 'Delete Part(s)' pop-up.
- Save your changes by going to the 'File' tab and selecting the 'Save' icon.
